It is an undisputed fact that the world we live in has problems: socio-economic problems, environmental distress, human rights issues – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There is obviously no easy answer to these issues. There’s no quick fix solution, and no solution that will fix every problem.
I truly believe that the inception to the solving of all these problems lies in the overlooked issue of gender discrimination, and the rights for women and children. Every child should be able to go to school, to get an education and to decide for themselves what they wish to do with their lives. The same goes for every woman.
Women should be able to attain the same jobs as men, with the same pay and salary as men. They should be able to attain these jobs in their home countries. They should not be forced to leave their homeland in search of opportunities, when there are abundant opportunities for men of equal qualifications in their home country. A young girl should be able to dream up her own beautiful future, and she should have the right to know that her every goal is within her reach, and that her goal will be supported by the community and the world around her.
The idea of empowerment for women and children in the more recent past has lead to organizations such as Free The Children, giving youth (and women) the tools they need to change the world.
